This weekend the MMQG will be hosting our second annual Quilt Display "Quilting Modern" which showcases new works from our Members at the Nova Scotia  Fibre Arts Festival.
(Details on the event can be found at the end of this post).

To help celebrate the show and the work of our members, some have put forth their works for a Viewer's Choice Award. Sit back and have a peek at these amazing works, and at the end, Vote for your favorite!   Voting will be open until October 21st.

MMQG PE October Sew-In Recap

Four members converged on the West Royalty Sobey's Community Room in Charlottetown, PEI, for MMQG PE October Sew-In Day,  

 Dawn, Colleen, Cathy and Heather spent the day sewing up a storm.  Liz dropped by in the afternoon to see what everyone was working on. 

In the beginning, we helped Colleen arrange her blocks made for her to thank her for serving as President of another guild. After several layouts, Colleen chose this:

 Dawn, Cathy and Heather worked on their projects.

 

 At the end of a very productive day!

MMQG at Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival

The 8th Annual Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival takes place from October 13 - 17th in Amherst, NS.

Maritime Modern Quilt Guild is very proud and happy to participate in this fabulous 5 day festival dedicated to everything fibre.  

Our lovely little guild will be displaying modern quilts and quilty items created by our members .   

Our display, called "Quilting Modern", will be held on Friday, the 16th and Saturday, the 17th,

from 10 am til 4 pm at Amherst Town Hall, 98 East Victoria St.  (Festival Headquarters) 

Guild members will be present to answer all questions.  Free admission. 

New at our show this year, a free demonstration on how to "quilt as you go".  Guild President, Adrienne Klenck invites you to stop by and check out this amazing quilting technique.  She and her trusty sewing machine will be set up and ready for action on Saturday morning from 10:30 - 11:30.

MMQG October Meeting Recap

Our October meeting was held at Patch Halifax on October 8.  Twenty-two excited, happy, modern quilters attended.  Introductions were made as we welcomed three guests for the first time.  Our meeting was presided over by our Vice-President, Jennifer.  A short business meeting was held and then it was on to the program for the evening.  Our program was all about fun and games.  Jennifer started us off by playing a game of "Name that Kona"  The object was to match the colour name to the correct swatch.  Game #2 involved naming the parts of a sewing machine and Valerie won the prize for naming the most.   And lastly a memory game which was won by Anja.  Lots of fun!

Our First Charity Sew-In

Our First Charity Sew-In Day was a huge success.  15 happy, hardworking, talented quilters showed up to sew together 8" HSTs that were made by members and collected over the past several months.   Once the blocks were made into 64" x 80" tops, the basting began.  Generous members also donated the backing fabrics. Machines were humming away fast and furious as the quilting began.  At the end of the day there were 8 quilts in various stages of doneness. A few quilters took the quilt they were working on home with them to finish up.  All in all....Awesome!  Thanks to all MMQG members who donated, sewed, basted, pressed, quilted, made binding and travelled from afar .     You rock!   We will be donating these 8 quilts to The Lodge that Gives , a refuge for those travelling to Halifax for cancer treatment.  Stay tuned for the final reveal.
