MMQG September Sew-In Day

This past Saturday was the September Sew-In Day for our guild and we had a wonderful turn-out of excited quilters. It was a very hot day but that didn't stop the productivity and inspiration from flowing.  Didn't get a lot of photos of all the activity because we were just too darn busy!

Here are a few highlights:
Lots of signature blocks

finishing up some wonderful wavy line quilting

Handstitching was happening

Tiny, tiny piecing

Some serious quilting supplies

Our guild banner was just hanging around!

Many hands make light work

We all had a wonderful, relaxing day and got lots of sewing accomplished.  Sew-In Day rocks! Our next Sew-In Day will be October 25 @ 1 Prince St., Dartmouth.  Get in touch if you need more info.

October Challenge!

I am desperate to hold on to Summer, so I challenge you to make a Sunglasses Case! Also, you can't really deny that sunglasses are good all year round, even for the snow glare! (yes I said the S word).

So for the October meeting, make a Sunglasses case, get one!

I have started an inspiration board on Pinterest with tutorials:

Have fun!

MMQG September Meeting Recap

Our September 11th meeting, held at Patch Halifax was well attended by 18 excited members.  Thanks so much to Chris, owner of Patch, for hosting our meeting.
We started with a business meeting and after that we got right to the fun parts of our meeting,

Our program for the evening was a blogging information presentation by our Jenn. Lots of great info for beginner bloggers and also for those who have been blogging for a while. Blogging is such a big part of modern quilting.   Thanks to Jenn!

Then, our Zippered Pouch Swap....bring one-get one!  The array of pouches was amazing and not two alike!
Here's a group shot and a few close-up examples of what our members brought to swap.

After the swap, we got a look at our new guild banner, completed except for the binding, which still had to be handstitched to the back.  Yes, some modern quilters still don't have the machine-binding skill! winkwink Linda

An amazing group effort.  Adrienne co-ordinated this project and got the ball rolling.  Thanks to Adrienne!
The Kona solids were donated by Robert Kaufman Fabrics and were greatly appreciated.  Members were given the Kona solids to make a 6 1/2" unfinished pieced block of their own choice.  The amazing centre panel was made by KAREN, our lettering queen!  You have to see this close-up.  Adrienne sewed up the design and Linda freemotion quilted the heck out of it.  Donna will add the finishing touch and stitch the binding down.  You will see that the back is made up of signature blocks by those who participated and Adrienne sewed these all together into a backing piece.
Our first display of our banner will be at our very first quilt show at the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival in Amherst, NS, Oct. 17 and 18.  We are very excited about our quilt show! Hope you will be able to attend the Festival and visit our display.  You can get a good look at our new banner!

Here's a look at some of the quilting in progress....
