MMQG November Sew-In Day Recap

This past Saturday was a typical crappy, rainy Nova Scotia day!  But 6 dedicated MMQGers braved the weather and spent the day enjoying each other's company and sewing up a storm.  Our location for Sew-In Day changed from Dartmouth to Bedford. Guild member Beth secured the lovely room with a view in her condo building for us to use for our November get together. When you are comfy and cozy indoors with your sewing machine purring away, who cares what it is doing outside.

Dominique started the machine quilting on her scrappy quilt.

Valerie worked on sewing up her curved blocks.  So nice!
update - if you click here you can see how Val's blocks look when they are all laid out together.
Anja pieced together some gorgeous blocks

Anja brought her iron caddy and now everyone wants to make one!

Dominique brought her wonderful quilt to show.

Beth worked on finishing up sewing her curved blocks
and Linda and Karen worked on handquilting and pattern drafting.

A fun time was had by all.  If you would like to join us for a Sew-In , please feel free to get in touch for further info.  We would love to see what you are working on.

MMQG NOVEMBER MEETING RECAP

Our November Meeting was held on Thursday, Nov. 12
@ Patch Halifax.  It was attended by 19 members and 6 guests. That makes 25 happy, excited quilters altogether and because it was MMQG's Second Birthday, there were lots of treats to enjoy and memories to share.

Our meeting started with the presentation of a quilt to Chris, the owner of Patch Halifax.  The quilt was a group effort by guild members and was given as a thank you for all the support that Chris has given our guild over the past year.  The blocks were sewn by guild members and then Adrienne designed a layout, sewed it into a top and completed the quilting and binding. It is an amazing quilt! We know there will be some major snuggling under this quilt.

Then it was time for our pillow swap. 7 guild members participated

After the business meeting portion of our meeting concluded, it was on to our program.  Adrienne showed us how she makes her fabulous QAYG Christmas stockings.  You can go to her blog here to find her tutorial so you can make some too.

Then it was on to the eye candy portion of our meeting...Show and Share.    (Not all the photos taken turned out well enough to post sorry)

A fun time was had by all, as usual.  Hope you can join us next time.  Just get in touch for all the info.maritimemqg@gmail.com Love to see what you are working on.

MMQG rockin' the QCR

On a beautiful sunny day in Dartmouth (despite our president's forecast of clouds), 8 excited, happy members joined Heather, our instructor, in a workshop using the Quick Curve Ruler (QCR) by #sewkindofwonderful

Heather shared her awesome quilts made using the QCR.

the back...

After demoing the ruler, using the four patch block pattern and the curved HSTs, everyone went to work and started cutting and sewing their blocks!  A couple of things to remember:  Speed is not your friend to make the curved blocks. Check your pattern instructions twice before cutting!

Each member brought their favourite pattern:  Susan and Beth worked on the Deco Tumbler; Val and Adrienne worked on the Metro Twist; Cathy on the Midnight Mosaic Runner; Karen working on Cupcakes and making a variation of this pattern; Amanda on the Urban Tiles; and Mindy on the Urban Abacus.

It was a joy to see the variety and fabric choices used. These students are going to have some fabulous quilts in the near future. Can't wait to see them!  Kudos to everyone on successfully mastering curves. Here's a look at a few of the colour combos and different configurations.

Amanda's block is just fabulous!

A fun time was had by all!

Thanks so much to our instructor, guild member Heather, for making the trip to Dartmouth from PEI to share her skills with us.  Heather will be sharing her same amazing skills with members of MMQG PEI branch during November Sew In / Curves Workshop
