MMQG January 2017 Sew-In - Recap

Our January Sew-In was absolutely one to remember. Over the course of the day, we had 21 happy quilters (new faces and  many seasoned members) come and join us, working on many a beautiful project.

Busy Bees
This may have been the best attended Sew-In yet!

Only a fraction of our happy quilty attendees on Saturday
We saw foxes, a finish destined for the #mqgswap, some FPP lessons, tiny hexagons, a felt lobster, some snails and a sweater quilt... the list goes on.

Bye little quilt, happy trails in the #mqgswap
A Sweater Quilt finish from Fabric Fusion Designs - Check Out Those Elbow Patches!
A wild round of LCR erupted at 2pm, and our winners each hauled home a big stack of fat quarters. What a great day. If you couldn't attend, you were missed!

It's high stakes and all in for one of two groups playing LCR

And then there were two...

Sandra is the LUCKIEST person we know! :)

And as a special treat - someone stopped Adrienne's Mom in the hallway with a box of random stray fabric - Free to a Good Home! We pillaged it.

Stay tuned - our February meeting will take place on Thursday, February 9th at our usual meeting place and time: 7-9pm at the Royal LePage Atlantic offices on Bayers Road. We hope to see you there!

MMQG January 2017 Meeting - Recap

It was a packed house on Thursday evening at the first MMQG meeting of 2017. We had 35 members in attendance. So nice to see familiar and new faces - many new members in attendance, as well as some we haven't seen in quite a while. Welcome back everyone!

Our January meeting was special for many reasons.
Firstly, we had the "coronation" of our new President...

Left: Outgoing (and Founding) Prez Adrienne Klenck
Right: Incoming (and Fabulous) Prez Crystal Gammon

Complete with a tiara, and official passing of the gavel and banner to our new President, Crystal Gammon. Thank you Crystal for taking the reins and guiding us in this new year and next!

Then, we had a special surprise thank you presentation for our outgoing President, Adrienne Klenck... many happy tears were shed and a well deserved round of applause erupted for our Adrienne. Sneakily,  many of us had been working on a quilt for Adrienne for months. It was a labour of love to assemble many Raspberry Kiss blocks in MMQG colours, a paper pieced logo, get it quilted, and beautifully bound in time for the presentation.

Amanda and Linda present Adrienne with her quilt.

And, I would be a bad kid if I missed this special thank you - Linda Smith. Linda is our outgoing social media princess, and I have assumed the position - I'm Sarah Pettipas and you'll be hearing from me (and others, thank goodness) on our social media outlets. Thank you so kindly for taking our MMQG social media presences to new wild places in the three years you have been at the helm. The lady behind the camera, keyboard and many other places - we would not have the online presence we do, without your efforts!

That was it for outgoing executive thank yous - please stay tuned for a "Meet Your MMQG Executive" post coming right up, soon - we have an amazing team this year, with new and returning peeps.

We heard details of a new executive position called MQG Ambassador, exciting updates on the retreat and Crystal revealed our Executive Challenge. This year, we will be experimenting with Word Play.

We then had a lovely program, where Linda showed us the wonders of String Quilts. A little bit of history, a few techniques, and some finished products. A great learning experience for all. And, an amazing scrap buster.

A great time was had by all! Charlotte Hansen, one of our newbies, won a beautiful gemology calendar donated by Andrea, our MQG Ambassador and boss lady at 3rd Story Workshop. Mary Guilford, returning member and Quilt-Con bound, won a yummy FQ pack from Mad About Patchwork. We do love prizes!

MEGA show and share as well, lots of sewing with reckless abandon happening over the holidays and after, it seems. Thank you especially to newbies for sharing their wares - it takes courage and your projects were stunning!
