A Wee Summer Sew In

Yesterday was our June Sew In..we had some stiff competition...sunny blue skies! I'm glad the sun guy won. But still there were a handful of us snuggled in for the day of stitching and chatting.

Betsy came in all the way from Annapolis Royal! We missed her buddy Karen, but had fun watching Besty quilt up her sweet top

Dominique stopped by to show off her latest finish! It's a showstopper!

Jeanette was working on some couch cushions to freshen up her living room

I love seeing what folks bring their notions in. All the bags are handmade of course!

There was some applique

Some consults on how to match binding to the top - worked perfectly by the way

We had some race runners!

Some Improv Piecing

Some Flying Geese for an original design

July Kona Club Selections were delivered for those in the Kona Club

There were whales! (and minimal swear words)

Some Gravity

More Geese
And lot's of Chain Piecing! Glorious Chain Piecing!

Phew! There might have only been a few of us, but we were productive! It was a lovely day all around, absolutely in my top three of things I look forward to each month! Hope to see you in July.

We are holding our July Sew in on Sunday for folks who usually can't come on a Saturday. Hope to see you there!

Fun with Dena!

Saturday, June 20 was a fun day for the participants of our MMQG sponsored paper piecing workshop with Dena Emeneau. Our day started at 9 am and Dena started us off with a warm-up pattern and then it got serious with a wonderful star design.  Everyone did really well and there was lots of  oohing and aahing at the end of the class day when the results of a day's worth of sewing were revealed.  Here are a few shots of the goings on.

Maime's colour combo is just so gorgeous.

Fiona's block is coming together.

Bev's sewing perfection was more than perfect!

Linda's block matched her shirt....she says it was planned!

Susan's block matches her shirt too but she says it wasn't planned!

Val and Linda just goofing around!

It was a great, relaxing sewing day and we want to say many thanks to Dena for sharing her expertise with us.  I think you have a few converts to paper piecing now Dena!

Congratulations MMQG PE !

Successful launch of the MMQG on Prince Edward Island

Twelve awesome quilters attended our information night on Thursday June 11, 2015 in Stratford with people attending from all three counties of the Island.  A super fantastic turnout!

Heather Jarmyn, MMQG PE leader provided an overview of the purpose of the guild, modern quilting and about the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild.  We held a discussion on potential guild activities with quilt / block examples to share.

We also talked about dates for meetings and will alternate between Charlottetown and Summerside areas. We ended the meeting with a show and tell and the draws for fat quarters and a pattern.

Winners from the draws include: Liz, Betty, Lucinda, Jean M, Jean C, Dawn, Leigh Anne and Viola!  Congratulations!

A special thank you to Susan, who brought quilts, books and magazines to display as well as treats!

It was a successful night and we are looking forward to our first sew-in planned for July 11th with the location to be confirmed.  The next meeting will be held on July 30th at 7 p.m. in the West Royalty Community Room, Sobeys  at 39 Babineau Avenue, Charlottetown!  Watch this space and stay tuned for future dates and details.

Here are a few photos of creations made by those in attendance and we are looking forward to all the quilty goodness in the future. Enjoy!
