We have a Meeting Space!

Great news! I have found us a meeting space for our monthly Guild meetings. We will be meeting in the Maxine Tynes room at the Alderney Gate Public Library. Also, the location for our Sew-Ins is also secured. We will Sew-In at the Admiralty Place Party Room - 1 Prince Street Dartmouth.
All of the details are on the Meetings Page.

More to come on the January Meeting. Here is a teazer - are you ready for Quilting As You Go?

Inagural Quilty Happiness!

On the wild and woolly Wednesday night some serious modern quilters braved the wind and rain to attend the inaugural meeting of the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild. How exciting it was to meet like minded women who have a passion for fabric and stitching it together into modern designs. And we all wanted to talk about it!

the Halifax contingent, Leigh Anne and Betsy were on the phone

This first meeting was talking about why we wanted to meet and then how we were going to do it. The Maritime Modern Quilt Guild exists to provide a place where non-traditional, fresh, modern quilters can meet, share, create and basically do quilty stuff!

Since the madness that is the month of December is upon us, we are going to start the new year  with our next meeting which will be on January 9th.

You can find out more about the Guild by heading to the About, Membership and Meetings Tabs. But the exciting part is this...we are going to meet twice a month. Once to do a little business, do some learning, and do some sharing, and twice to Sew! That's right, monthly Sew Ins!  It is going to be so great to sit around our sewing machines together.

But for now, some fun stuff, our first Show and Tell. Enjoy and hope to see you in January! ( with hopefully either better lighting or a better camera...)

Changes to First Meeting Location

So I had great plans for a space for our first meeting, but the space is not working for video conference so I have had to make a last minute change. I work for VON Canada and they have graciously allowed us to use their boardroom for the meeting. Here are the details:

Address:
VON Canada Eastern Region - Halifax Shopping Center | 7001 Mumford Road | Tower 1 | Suite 300
To find Tower One at the mall - go to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Shop (you're welcome) and go down the hallway, there are glass doors leading to a hallway on your left, go to the elevators and come up to the third floor. The reception desk will not be open, so call me on my phone and I will come and let you in (please message me for my phone number).

Date & Time:
Wednesday November 27th - 7-9 pm

Videoconferencing:
I am using Any Meeting (www.anymeeting.com)
Log in: https://www.anymeeting.com/777-631-036

Can't wait to meet you!

Who We are: Nametags for the First Meeting

Dominique blogged today about name tags for guild meetings and I thought this was a great idea for our first meeting. Here is a secret that you are about to find out, I am horrible with names! In fact, it will likely be a good thing for me to have a name tag on so that I remember who I am as we get all excited talking and stuff about the Guild :)

Here are a few tutorials and inspiration posts that I have found.
Crazy Mom Quilts
Pile O'Fabric
Wasn't Quilt in a Day
A Pinterest Board I found

No pressure to do this, just a thought (seriously):) You know that sometime we are going to have so many members we will have to label ourselves :)

First Meeting Set

The very first meeting of the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild has been set!

Date: Wednesday November 27

Time: 7:00-9:00 pm

Place: 1 Prince Street, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (Admiralty Place Condo Building. I have booked their Party Room - just follow the signs for "MMQG" when you arrive)

Web Conferencing: For those of you not in the Halifax / Dartmouth area, we are going to try video conferencing. I will send that info along to interested folks.

At this first meeting we are going to do fun things like setting our bylaws, and electing our officers! We will need a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer to start. We will also get down to the business of what we wold like to do as a guild, meetings, and fun stuff likes sew-ins, swaps, challenges etc. Whatever we want! The world is our oyster!

Not wanting to be all business, I think it might also be fun to have a little show and tell. Bring along some quilty treasures to share. We can get to know each other through our work :)

Please RSVP by November 25th just so I have a sense of numbers.
...and pass along the word!

So excited!

Getting Started!

Welcome to the on-line home of the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild. Right now it is just me here, Adrienne, but I am hoping you will want to join me soon :) I live just outside of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and I have  had a dream- to start a chapter of the Modern Quilt Guild in the Maritimes. Montreal is just too far away!

The Maritime Modern Quilt Guild encompasses the Maritime Provinces; Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island and will be based physically out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Because we cover such a large geographic area we will likely have face-to-face  and on-line meeting options. Details to be worked out!

You can learn more about Modern Quilting by going to the About Page. It is my hope that the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild will provide a place where non-traditional, fresh, modern quilters can meet, share and create.

First things first - I need to find interested folks! If you are interested in being a key member (officers will include President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary), want to help with start up, or are just keen to be a member, leave a comment below or contact me at maritimemodernqg@outlook.com

I would like to have a first meeting with interested people by the end of November, 2013. I will find a location for the meeting, and for people who do not live in or near Halifax Regional Municipality, you can join via Teleconference.

So excited to start this journey with you!
