MMQG November Meeting Update

Our November meeting was all about us! We gathered together at Patch and after a bit of a business meeting, the fun began.  Since our one-year birthday was happening, there was cake!
and also lots of prizes!

Some members attending brought along their very first quilt and also what they are working on now.  How incredible to see the progression of style and skill over the years.  Some have been quilting for many years and some have just begun.  Here are a few shots of before and today.

A few additional quilts were shown too!    A ton of inspiration!

Also, here are our zippered pouches all ready to be sent to the Victoria Modern Quilt guild in B.C.
We are looking forward to the Swap.

Welcome to MMQG

Hello Blog Hoppers!  Welcome to the Maritimes!  Glad you dropped by. Not only is it the 3rd annual Blogathon Canada, sponsored by Sew Sisters Quilt Shop but it is also our one-year Anniversary!

Our November meeting at Patch Halifax.

The Maritime Modern Quilt Guild was started in November of 2013 by Adrienne Klenck of Chezzetcook Modern Quilts.  A dream come true for her…to gather like-minded modern quilters together in our region…a place to share, inspire and just have some plain old fun with our common passion. She sent out the call via Blogland and 6 excited quilters showed up; the MMQG was born.
To date, 34 quilters have joined in and become members.   Although the MMQG is physically located in the Halifax/Dartmouth area, quilters who live too far to join in, can still be a part of the fun!  For example, modern quilters have travelled from Annapolis Royal, Yarmouth and PEI to join in from time to time, bringing along some amazing modern quilts to show and share.  We are a talented lot here in the Maritimes!
Monthly meetings are held as well as the very popular monthly Sew-In Days.  Check out the MMQG blog for dates and times.

Here are a few examples of  some works by our members

We are accepting new members!  We do have a ton of fun.  You can contact us directly at maritimemqg@gmail.com
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the Hop!

F.U.N. with F.M.Q

Oh yes, we had fun!  5 awesome MMQG members arrived at Linda's house for a day of skill-building and problem-solving.  The object of the day was to take the fear out of free-motion quilting and getting comfortable with your sewing machine so that successful quilting is achieved.
Here's a few photos of how well everyone did with their first attempts and there were promises made to practice, practice, practice!

Barb learned a lot about her new machine and ended up making some wonderful designs.

Some serious quilting going on here

Shauna practicing her loopy hearts on paper first.

Tracy had a bit of a struggle with her bobbin but all was well in the end.

Val caught on very quickly and produced some wonderful stitching.

Susan's hearts and stars

Tracy is a natural!

Shauna gets more and more confident.

Val is very creative!

Pretty good for a first attempt!
