Sewing In is Sew In!

Who doesn't want to spend their Saturday with fun folks behind sewing machines? We do, We do! We had a marvelous Sew In yesterday in Dartmouth. It seemed a day all about finishes!

Amanda broke out the Halloween Fabrics and made a cute postage stamp pillow to match a runner
she had already whipped up!

Deborah and Margaret had some fun projects going on.

Valerie was playing with Improv

Adrienne was on a mission. She came with a stack of squares,
and left with a completed baby Plus quilt!

Anja and Dena were on Zipper Pouch duty! Getting ready for our swap with VMQG!

Jennifer was finishing up the binding on her latest project. Wait until you see this one! Jenn was hiding a couple of twins under there. I suspect the next time we see her Jenn will be a new mom!

Dominique dropped in to work on her daughters witchy tutu. The girl can sew and she makes a great model too!

Julie finished a new bag. She made the pattern up out of her head!
Yes, you heard me right. Amazing!

Pouchy goodness. Seeing what everyone brings their supplies in is
almost as fun as seeing the quilts!

Cathy had time to drop in and whip up a baby quilt top. Quick as a bunny and super soft!

Our next Sew In is scheduled for November 29th. Why not drop in! Bring a Friend!

Modern Quilting hits Amherst!

Amherst is Awesome!  Our very first quilt show was a smashing success!  About 150 people stopped by to view our display on the first day. The Friday of Festival Week is all about quilts so there are lots of quilters in town,   The second day, the Saturday,  was a bit slower but  loads of excitement nonetheless.  There was so much excitement and enthusiasm over our quilts that it was a bit overwhelming.  There were tons of questions to be answered and even mini-tutorials on a few of the quilts and free-motion quilting.  We met quilters from all over the Maritimes and Newfoundland, from Maine and Seattle in the U.S., from Toronto and even from Kuwait.

Our guild banner was a huge hit!  So many compliments.  It was suggested that it be entered in a quilt show!
We are very proud of ourselves...our guild is almost one year old and we have already had a quilt show of our members' talents.  We have been asked to come back again next year and also to do a class or two.

A great big thank you to the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival for all the help and encouragement. It was our pleasure to be a part of  your  awesome festival.  See you again next year!

Thanks to Karen Neary for all her help and encouragement too.

Here are a few photos from our experience

This is the shopping bag you received with a purchase from Mrs. P's Emporium.  A few of these were filled with quilty goodies!
All in all, it was a fantastic experience for those involved and great exposure for our little guild.  We had lots of interested quilters and hopefully we will be connecting with some of them in the future.

The Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival is always the day after Thanksgiving and runs to the Saturday.

Then it was time for Show and Share

Then we were treated to a very informative and interesting presentation by Margaret of Fortune Cove Designs.
We got the chance to hear about her process and see some of her wonderful creations.

Margaret also gave us a little tutorial on how she chenilles with tiny little scraps.
