Our First Charity Sew-In

Our First Charity Sew-In Day was a huge success.  15 happy, hardworking, talented quilters showed up to sew together 8" HSTs that were made by members and collected over the past several months.   Once the blocks were made into 64" x 80" tops, the basting began.  Generous members also donated the backing fabrics. Machines were humming away fast and furious as the quilting began.  At the end of the day there were 8 quilts in various stages of doneness. A few quilters took the quilt they were working on home with them to finish up.  All in all....Awesome!  Thanks to all MMQG members who donated, sewed, basted, pressed, quilted, made binding and travelled from afar .     You rock!   We will be donating these 8 quilts to The Lodge that Gives , a refuge for those travelling to Halifax for cancer treatment.  Stay tuned for the final reveal.

MMQG - PEI September Meeting Recap

There were 11 members and 2 guests in attendance at the September meeting which was held at West Royalty Community Room, Sobey's, 39 Babineau Ave., Charlottetown. One new member was signed up! Welcome!

Our members were very creative in showcasing their name tags they made.  Dianne shared her story behind her name tag using Jean pockets.

Eleven mug rugs were exchanged.  They were varied and awesome!  We even got a group shot courtesy of one of our guests (thank you).

Our Queen Bee this month is Lucinda and she shared her block and provided the background fabric.  All bee mates will bring the block to the next meeting.  Cannot wait to see the variety of fabrics used from people's stash to make her block.

BBF (Book/Blog/Fabric) covered Make Modern e-magazine and various print magazines showcasing modern quilts in place of one book; the blog showcased was Play Crafts (www.play-crafts.com/blog), whose author is this month's MQG quilt designer and Zen Chic's fabric lines were showcased (some Zen Chic fabrics were also part of the IG FQ bundle giveaway).

Gail won the fat quarter in the name tag draw and Liz won the IG fat quarter
bundle from Fabric Please!  Thank you Rita for providing the IG prize.

MMQGPE September Sew-In Recap

It was a grey drizzly day on the Island and Heather and Kathy took advantage of the Sew-In hosted by
Bargain Fabric Outlet in North Bedeque, PEI,
Saturday September 12.

There was much laughter and discussion but they were focused on accomplishing a few things.  Heather had to relearn how to wind a bobbin using her backup machine - amazing how one forgets things can be different on different machines! They.were later joined by Gail who was curious to see what they were working on and looking for fabric in preparation for the November workshop.

Heather was working on her son's wedding quilt blocks

and Kathy was working on her name tag. Fabulous!!!

All three managed to add to their fabric collection by taking a break to shop for current and future projects, the perk of having your quilty get-together in a fabric store1 No pictures were captured of those lovelies..Sorry, too busy buying fabric!

The next MMQGPE meeting will be held Sept 24  7 - 9 pm
 at West Royalty Community Room
39 Babineau Ave.
Charlottetown, PEI

The next MMQGPE Sew-In will be held  October 10  10 - 4

Recap - MMQG September meeting

Our September meeting was held Thursday, Sept 10 at
Patch Halifax on Robie St.  Congratulations to owner, Chris, on the birth of her new son.  All our best to you!

It was a very exciting meeting.   23 happy quilters attended and  4 new members joined our guild.    After a bit of business was discussed, members who participated in the Mini Quilt Challenge exchanged their secret swaps.  Each participant had filled out a questionnaire so that their partner would know a bit about their likes and dislikes to help with ideas on what to make. All the mini quilts were wonderful.  It was easy to see that lots of thought and care went into each one.
                     Congratulations Everyone! Awesome job!
