MMQG February Meeting Recap

Our February Meeting was well attended and very sweet too!  Anja was so thoughtful to bring a birthday cake so we could all share in VP Jennifer's birthday and Jennifer treated us all to her amazing double chocolate caramel salty goodness double delicious homemade cupcakes.
I had too much chocolate on my hands to take a photo!  But believe me, they were a hit!

Adrienne, our President, couldn't be with us (missed you) so Jennifer took the reins and conducted our meeting. Great job Jenn!

First order of business,   Choose a charity that will be the recipient of our group quilt(s)

We heard from three presenters and by ballot, the charity of choice was chosen
The Lodge that Gives in Halifax - for cancer patients and their families.

We collected a number of HSTs that will be made into quilts for the donation.

Our program for the evening was a very informative talk on photographing quilts.  The talk was given by professional photographer, Lyndsay Doyle.    Click on her name to check out her website.

Here are a few shots of Show and Share time and a look at what our Members are creating these days.
Cathy S. received her pouch from the swap with the Victoria Modern Guild

We had a bit of extra time to socialize and just talk quilting.  A great time was had by all and we were  very happy to have a guest quilter from Switzerland join us and participate in our Show and Share.
Thanks again to Chris for hosting our meetings in  her lovely shop,  Patch Halifax ,

Hope you can join us for our next Sew-In Day.

MMQG January Sew-In Day

Tomorrow, Jan 31, is our Sew-In Day.  WooHoo! Right now, even though the weather forecast sounds like it could be a bad driving day, our Sew-In is still on.  We will keep you informed.  Please check before setting out in the morning.

Bring your machine, an extension cord, a project or two, your nametag, your lunch and stay all day or just for a bit.  For those who participated, we will be receiving the pouches from our swap with the Victoria Modern Quilt Guild and everyone is so anxious to see what has arrived.  Such fun!

Did you know that non-members may attend our monthly Sew-Ins?  The first Sew-In is free and after the first Sew-In, guests pay a $5 guest fee.  Bring a quilty friend along for the day.  This is a good way to help decide if you want to join a guild.  We would love it if you would, hint hint!

See you at 1 Prince St., Dartmouth (Party Room) from 10 am til 5 pm.  Get in touch for more info.

January Meeting - Recap

Our Annual General Meeting was held last night, Jan. 8.  Chris @Patch Halifax graciously hosted our get-together in her thoroughly modern shop.  24 excited quilters attended.  We are very pleased to have three new members join our guild bringing our membership to just over 40 quilters.  Our President, Adrienne, presented us with a very informative, interesting Power Point detailing of the last year and projections  for the coming year . Also, she broke down the results of our on-line survey of likes and dislikes and suggestions for improvement.  Again, very interesting stuff.  Aimee, our Treasurer, reported on the budget for the coming year.
After our business meeting, Amanda, our Swap Coordinator, passed out yummy little packages of 5" dots and stripes charm squares to those who participated in our Swap.  And then it was on to the Show and Share.

Tracy's BasketBall quilt top is just amazing!

Linda showed us her completed Christmas quilt.  She assured us that it was quite warm and cosy for taking naps!

Here's the pieced back (upside down)

Linda shared fabric postcards that she received while participating in Sheila's Swaps.  For more info, contact Linda.  There may be a workshop in the future!
