MMQG July Sew-In Day Recap

13 is a lucky number for the MMQG.  That's how many happy, motivated, productive quilters showed up to spend the day together finishing up projects or just socializing.  What a fun day we had! For the first time our Sew-In was held on a Sunday to give those who find it difficult to attend on the usual Saturdays. Not many photos to share with you.  But you can believe me, it was a beehive of activity.  There was machine quilting, zippered pouch making, baby bib assembly line, baby diaper making, hand quilting, repurposing of once loved clothing, paper piecing, chain piecing, strip piecing, pillow top making, machine applique, skill sharing, design consults and much more.  All this was sprinkled with generous amounts of laughing and joking around.  Then it was lunch time!  And the afternoon continued with more of the same.  The lighting was not good yesterday, so my phone pics aren't the best.  Maybe you should come next time and get a way better look!
Shauna was cranking out these cute little VW Bus Hexies on her little Featherweight

Emily's very first quilt!

Cathy was appliquing circles around us with her fancy circle making attachment.  She was working on her original modern design.

Donna tries out piecing on her new Pfaff

Anja was chain piecing away and finished up a complete quilt top

Adrienne had a zippered pouch assembly line going on

Here's a short video showing how Jennifer quilts up a storm at Sew-In.  All the quilting done and ready to bind.

We went up to the terrace to take a photo of Linda's recent finish.  All free motion quilted.

Here's the back.

When in doubt, bring all your thread to Sew-In!

Hope you can join us next month. Love to see what you are working on.

Sew-Ins for the MMQG are on the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. No charge to members to attend the Sew-Ins. For non-members,the first Sew-In is free and after the first Sew-In,  pay a $5 guest fee.

Destash Yardsale! A Great Summer MMQG NS Meeting

Can I just say that we have the most fun at our monthly meetings! Last night we tried something new - A Member Destash Yard Sale! Members brought fabric, notions, patterns, books, and items that they were ready to release from their stash, set up their tables and the shopping began!

There were some great deals! We had a lot of fun getting rid of some old stuff and getting  new stuff! Throw in making a couple of bucks and you have for a fun evening! Oh and did we have some fun over some the the items...

Somebody might have taken the duck home...you will have to stay tuned for a future project...

After shopping we had a Low Volume Charm Square swap, Amanda is so organized!

Then, like the excitement could not build anymore, We oohed and aahed over the Pillows that are now off to be swapped with the Edmonton MQG.

And of course we could not end an evening without a show and share. Summer hours are keeping our finishes on the light side, but as one member said "I come here to get inspired". We had some amazing projects shown and some great consults.

Amanda showed us her AMAZING sewing machine cover and she got some advice on quilting
Jennifer showed a Quilt Bee UFO that has been sitting in the closet. Time to get it out!
Anja made a basked and bag!
Cathy is into some improv and an adorable baby quilt (below)

Dominique, in her wizardry of re-purposing showed us some kids skirts she made out of shirts
Adrienne showed her finished Top and got some advice on quilting and sprucing up the color!

It was a fun evening for sure. I think the whole destash yardsale may just become an annual summer event....

Next up this month - Sew in will be on Sunday July 26th. 10-5. 1 Prince Street Dartmouth
