We Love a Good Sew In!

What a fun day we had in Dartmouth at our monthly Sew In! Ten of our amazing members hunkered down for the day, including four of our newest members Dena, Julie, Shawna and Susan and PEI was in the house! Leanne form Ella's Cottage was in town for the weekend, so great to see her.

Let's see what everyone was up to...
Crystal was on a Basting Mission. The Kona Colors in this project are amazing!

Adrienne got busy piecing the Guild Banner top and backing together. Now it is going off to Linda for Quilting!

Shauna had a Featherweight. Adrienne might have been drooling...just maybe

Anja put her new fabric basket to good use

Dena was doing paper piecing magic

Julie has fun fabric, great storage bins and her machine runs on it's own! (I figured out quickly s was doing it's embroidery thing)

One of the projects Leigh Anne was working on. Giant star!

Jennifer started on a new project, and Elizabeth Hartman stunner.

Jeanette was working on some scrappy blocks. Her fabric choices are stunning!

I think everyone felt good about the day. Lot's of fun conversation, some quilty consults and lots of sewing!

I don't know about anyone else, but Sew In always gets me so motivated to keep going! After our full day I went right home, unpacked my gear and starting sewing again!
See you next time!

MMQG August Sew-In Day!

It's almost time for the August Sew-In!  Saturday the 23rd is the day!

Location: 1 Prince Street, Dartmouth.

Bring your machine, an extension cord, a project or two, your lunch (fridge available) and your nametag.  And be prepared to be inspired by our awesome group of quilters.

If you need help finishing up a project or need advice on how to quilt it, we have lots of experience and can help.

Or you may just want to sit on the comfy couch and work on a hand stitching project.  No pressure. Come for the day or just an hour.   We are all about having fun and friendship.
Vacationing in Halifax/Dartmouth area?  Stop by and say hello!

We are all excited to see how Adrienne sews all our banner blocks into the design of our guild banner. Wait til you see the amazing job that Karen did on making the center of the banner, using our guild logo as the design.  Karen's skill with lettering is amazing.  The unveiling will be at our quilt show in Amherst as part of the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival in October.

Here's a look at some of the blocks that our members made that will be incorporated into the design.
The blocks with signatures will be used in the design for the backing of the banner.

Hope to see you Saturday and please make sure to get in touch if you need additional information.

August Meeting Recap

Our wonderful new friend, Chris @Patch Halifax opened her doors to our guild last night so that we could have our monthly meeting!  Thanks so much Chris.  It was a great time.

We started off with introductions because there were new faces! Yes, we are now 3 members more.
Anja won the prize for wearing a name-tag. A lovely fat quarter pack.  Have fun with it Anja.  Maybe you could make a lovely zippered pouch!

BTW, next month's challenge is....Bring a handmade zippered pouch of any type and receive one to take home.  If you decide to participate, place it in a bag of some sort to keep it a secret.   Check out our Pinterest board for some inspiration.  Feel free to pin along too.
.
6 1/2" Blocks made by our members, that will be part of our new banner, were collected and oohed and ahhed over.

Can't wait to unveil the end result.  That will be in time for our quilt show in Amherst as part of the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival in October.  Check out the link for the schedule of events that happen over 5 days.

Next up, our program for the night...Jo Ferguson @Exploration in Stitch, gave us an in-depth demonstration on how to make fabric bowls.  The possibilites are endless with this technique and Jo got us all started on the basic technique.

She sure made it look easy.  Thanks Jo!
